My Story 2 - International Women’s Day
Share
On this International Women’s Day, my thoughts go to the women whose strength is rarely seen by the world.I grew up during years of civil war. I remember my mother gathering us close under her wings, trying to protect her children from the constant sound of bombing and aircraft attacks. I remember the silence in the house when my father went out to help injured people, and how she would hold her breath, waiting for the sound of his footsteps returning safely to our doorstep.
There were frequent displacements — moving from place to place, adjusting to new surroundings again and again. With very limited financial support and little help from the community in unfamiliar places, she still managed to keep our family healthy, safe, and hopeful.
She never complained about where life had placed her. Instead, she continued to smile with quiet strength. She never stop helping who need help around her.
Today, I honour my mother — and the countless women around the world who carry the weight of war with courage, dignity, and love.
Their strength is the foundation that keeps families and communities alive even in the darkest times.
Happy International Women’s Day to all the incredible women everywhere
